Steam Rating: 🍆🍆/5

I read A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas as part of a buddy read this month, and I’m glad I was peer-pressured into reading it because it’s probably not something I would have picked up on my own. Now I NEED to read the whole series!

Feyre is a mortal girl who lives in poverty with her sisters and father, and is the sole food provider for their family. One day she kills a wolf in the woods, and a fairy beast turns up at their cottage demanding retribution. I don’t want to give anything else away, so I won’t tell you much more about what happens in the story, but it’s a wild ride! One that’s filled with all kinds of creatures, love, family, and duty. Feyre is a wonderful and strong leading lady, and it was really moving to see her come into her own and grow emotionally throughout the book.

I’m told that the second book, A Court of Mist and Fury, is significantly more steamy than this one, so look out! I listened to this as an audiobook and really enjoyed Jennifer Ikeda’s narration. You can grab your own copy on audiobook by clicking the button below, or get a physical copy here.

Synopsis:

Feyre's survival rests upon her ability to hunt and kill – the forest where she lives is a cold, bleak place in the long winter months. So when she spots a deer in the forest being pursued by a wolf, she cannot resist fighting it for the flesh. But to do so, she must kill the predator and killing something so precious comes at a price ...

Dragged to a magical kingdom for the murder of a faerie, Feyre discovers that her captor, his face obscured by a jewelled mask, is hiding far more than his piercing green eyes would suggest. Feyre's presence at the court is closely guarded, and as she begins to learn why, her feelings for him turn from hostility to passion and the faerie lands become an even more dangerous place. Feyre must fight to break an ancient curse, or she will lose him forever.
