The Silkworm

Score: 5/5 Bookmarks

The Silkworm by Robert Galbraith (J.K. Rowling’s nom de plume) was another home run for me. I am truly, completely hooked on the Strike series, having read the first book The Cuckoo’s Calling, and now this one. I have been abandoning my stack of ARCs with fast-approaching deadlines in favor of continuing this series because the characters feel like home. I actually find myself missing the characters as soon as I’ve finished each of the books. They’re intriguing, real, and completely lovable in spite of (or maybe because of) their flaws.

The Silkworm follows Cormoran Strike and his assistant Robin as they investigate the disappearance of a little-known author, and then try to prove the author’s wife is innocent, when she is suspected of his murder. The story has many twists and turns, and will have you torn between wanting to fly through the pages to find out what happens, and holding back to savor the story for as long as you can.

I listened to The Silkworm as an audiobook on Libro.fm and it is wonderfully narrated by Robert Glenister. You can get 3-for-1 audiobooks on Libro.fm by using the button below. Synopsis:

Private investigator Cormoran Strike returns in a new mystery from Robert Galbraith, author of the #1 international bestseller The Cuckoo's Calling.

When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. At first, Mrs. Quine just thinks her husband has gone off by himself for a few days—as he has done before—and she wants Strike to find him and bring him home.

But as Strike investigates, it becomes clear that there is more to Quine's disappearance than his wife realizes. The novelist has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows. If the novel were to be published, it would ruin lives—meaning that there are a lot of people who might want him silenced.

When Quine is found brutally murdered under bizarre circumstances, it becomes a race against time to understand the motivation of a ruthless killer, a killer unlike any Strike has encountered before...
